Here at the Sedler Center, our mission of giving students real-world experiential business opportunities was put on full display this past weekend. We had the amazing opportunity to take a group of brilliant young students to Columbus for a weekend full of learning and creating connections. In collaboration with Northern Kentucky University—Salmon P. Chase College of Law we were able to meet so many decorated and inspirational individuals. This trip was just another example of what the Sedler Center can bring to students, and we cannot wait to have more trips and experiences in the future! Our first stop on Friday was at Nationwide, where we had the pleasure of meeting with Lee Sheeran (Staff Operations Director) and Colleen McConahay (Business Consultant). Some of our students' biggest takeaways included: - Giving back should be rewarding. - Relationships move at the speed of trust. The next stop was the Ohio Statehouse and Ohio Chamber of Commerce. We got to hear from so many amazing individuals including the Secretary of State, Frank LaRose! Our biggest takeaways: - Business is boomin’ in Ohio! - Ohio is a top state to be a business owner in. - Business is affected by many external factors we do not always consider. The third and final stop for the trip was a panel hosted at COhatch by Wolf Starr. This event really connected with our students as we got to hear from many inspiring business professionals, who have all taken different paths to success. Some of these speakers included Evan Spencer, Suresh Rachuri, Krystopher Scott, Ryan Fogelman, J.D., MBA, Bailey Hanley, and David Butcher. The major takeaways here are: - Business is people, create meaningful and valuable connections that are mutually beneficial. - Failure is always a lesson. - People are more open/willing to talk than you think. Be bold and straight up with your intentions and connections. Always be yourself. A huge thank you to everyone mentioned above who made this possible as well as Jack Wyant, Wolf Starr, and Rick Stockburger for putting this all together and making it such an impactful weekend for so many people!
